What is the similarites and differences between a state attorney general and the US attorney general?

What are the similarites and differences between the Attorney General of a state in the United States and the Attorney General of the United States of America appointed by the President and approved by the US Senate?

1. Every state that has an attorney general can give it such powers as it desires, and provide for their accession to office in whatever way it desires. Normally these are set forth in the the state constitution. Some are elected; some appointed. To my knowledge AG offices in each state are pretty much the same. They represent the state government in all legal matters except where the state creates local district or state attorneys for handling local matters & criminal prosecutions.
